Dog Bark Control Collars
55 Dog barking is a valid form of communication for both their species and for the humans they share their lives with. If your dog is barking constantly then there very well may be an underlying cause of this barking. Gaining control over a compulsive barker will mean you, the owner, must figure out what the cause of the issue is. Whether it is loneliness, boredom, aggression or what you must get to the cause to formulate a cure. When you figure out what the problem are these devices can help in training your dog not to bark but you need to work more on the cause than just a temp fix. If your dog is lonely or bored you probably need to exerciser her more or if it is a separation anxiety issue there are many things you can try to make the dog feel more at ease. Never use any of these devices without consulting with and learning how to operate from a professional dog trainer.
There are many dog bark collars on the market with different types of corrections. Always use the collars for training sessions only. Do not leave the collar on all the time. Your dog will get used to it and the correction with lose its effectiveness.
The collars operate in manual mode, a handler administers the correction and automatic where a sensing device on the collar picks up a bark and the correction is administered. The auto mode is good when the handler is not present but again you should only use these during a training session.
The correction portion of the device is done in one of three ways. A spray of citronella, a flower extract that dog’s do not like, tone or stimulation. The theory is to distract the dog when they are obsessed on whatever it is they are barking at. In other words a dog is barking, the correction is administered and the dogs mind switches from the reason of the barking to the correction. The collar can pick up a bark either by an adjustable microphone or it picks up the vibration from the throat when the dog barks.
The Citronella collar sprays a burst of citronella right at the dog’s nose when a bark is picked up.
The tone collar can either deliver a loud audible sound or a sound inaudible to the human ear. These tone or sonic devices seem to be getting the reputation as being the most humane in the corrections.
The stimulation collars can give the dog either a buzz or a static shock. The manufacturers of the shock devices swear the stimulation is minimal and no more harmful than the static shocks you get when walking across a carpet and touching something metal. I would definitely talk to a professional trainer before ever considering a shock collar.
Find the cause of the barking and gain control over it. After you find the cause and you feel you need help you can find the tools out there to give you a hand. Only use the dog bark control collar for a training session and only under the supervision of a trainer.
